Generally, they are written in first person, there is an amateur sleuth who lives in a small community with interesting characters. There is a murder, but not blood and gore, violence, profanity, or sex scenes.
Fluffy serial killings solved by old/bumbling detective, often with a side kick one of which is cleverer than the other and usually takes place in the countryside.
Cassandra Rose Santiago I just finished the 24th book last month. I posted pics of the 3 cozy mysteries I read. It is cheesy but I guess that’s the point. I read it to follow the characters because the mystery part is pretty predictable. Lol
Recently I read this one from Malliet’s popular Max Tudor series (the only one I’ve read). I enjoyed it. She is very popular in the cozy mystery genre.
Authors I’ve read in this genre: Lilian Jackson Braun, Rhys Bowen Her Royal Spyness Series, Charlaine Harris (she has more than one series), Rita Mae Brown, Alexander McCall Smith, Tasha Tara Alexander
There seems to be a lot of them with recipes too lol Don’t know if that’s just a current trend in the genre.. Why are mysteries always about murder anyway?
My aunt used to read a series that always started with “The Cat Who…” about a cat who always played a role in helping his owner solve murders, and I think those would qualify.
It is a mystery story typically with amateur sleuths, no gore, etc. Literary examples include Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, but also the books featuring cooks/chefs, knitting clubs, bookstore owners – stuff like that. Here’s a good list: https://www.cozy-mystery.com/
Fun. They’re like the romantic comedies of books. Mostly fluffy, but still very enjoyable. ?
Agatha Raisin by MC Beaton is exactly that!
Think Murder She Wrote, where the killing isn’t gory or the main focus of the plot, often with a little comedy thrown in.

It did me to for a bit. This really helped and I’m using the Dumpling one for the sugar pop challenge amateur detective prompt.

Cleo Coyle coffeehouse mysteries, very good
Involves death without the blood and gore.
Along the lines of Murder She Wrote or Agatha Christie. Mysteries, sometimes including murder, but no gore, and not very suspenseful/tense.
Thank ya’ll
I’ll download some samples

Usually small town mysteries solved by freelance detectives.
