He’s more entertaining than good. I don’t pick up a Dan Brown novel because I want a novel that is written well. I pick it up for entertainment.

I would say the same for the one who wrote fifty shades of grey

I have read all 3 authors mentioned here. Where I think some books by Stephen King & Dan Brown were better than others I would still probably pick up a book of theirs if I hadn’t read it. However reference EL James… I read 50 Shades. I only just about ploughed through the awful dialogue etc & would certainly not consider ever reading another book written by her!

I say that about James Patterson. He doesn’t even write his own books. He had teams of writers do it for him

He’s a co author and helps other authors. Even as a co-author his books are amazing.

Beware of any book where the authors name is in bigger text than the title

That’s not really true at all. A lot of horror writers have that sort of cover design. Odd though, so far it’s mostly horror writers that do it. Now that I think about it. Hmmmmmm

there are many ‘supposedly’ great writers who make millions – its all down to the hype and marketing of the first book – 50 shades of grey ??

Textbooks are more interesting than Dan Brown’s works. At least you learn something with them.

you are not alone. My biggest pet peeve‘s with him is that he writes something and then he explains it to you and then the other character says do you mean this and then he re-explains it to you again. He writes for idiots.

No, you’re not the only one. His first books weren’t not so bad but the last ones… seems that he has nothing interesting to say so he writes more or less the same things in a boring bad way.

Well ,I liked Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons ,though the latter seemed a little pointless and melodramatic .
He is a writer with his own style ,which is now not a novelty. He combines information with a plot that lacks a practical touch and a satisfactory ending .

While I plunged into Inferno and was interested enough ,the book had too much information and was too long to become a favourite.
I call him a good writer because in his books he raises questions that are intriguing and leaves you enough space to keep an open mind .The information and the theories and the history is all interesting ,but he really needs to keep both the plot and the information ,compressed and to the point .
All that given ,I must admit I really like the Da Vinci code and its an all time favourite .

I agree with you, I like Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons and Inferno. Its breath taking, amazing and captivating to read.

Not really, all of his books seem to have the same story lines in different places ,years etc. Very BORING.

He is becoming James Patterson in recycling the same story. His last book was terrible, but I really enjoyed his other books.

Dan Brown writes topical, fascinating books which explore history, art, and the ways people perceive events. Of course, Daniel Kirkby, people’s interests differ–if you prefer a different style, or prefer other subject matters, that’s fine too. The world’s more interesting if we’re not all just alike.

I liked Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons and Da Vinci Code. I think he has more good books in him, but maybe he’s got something going on that is inhibiting him…but just my opinion of course.

I liked Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons, and Da Vinci Code, but sadly not 1 since then. But not opposed to keep trying, if my library continues to get them. Many writers go thru periods where their work is not up to par. I’ve yet to have a long time favorite author that didn’t produce some meh or outrightly awful books.

His early books were interesting…up to. The DaVinci code. Good beach or long plane ride books. After DV Code, his books became formula and arcane facts.

I really liked Inferno. I didn’t see the ending coming. He meticulously researches for his novels, sometimes too much! I enjoyed Origin, but that one too me a while to finish. I was a little disappointed with what it was building up to.

I honestly tried to read the DaVinci Code, but it was boring to me. I tried to watch the movie too, but it didn’t turn me on either. I honestly believe it was the writer himself that bummed me out. He took a subject that should have been extremely interesting, but it left me with a bland feeling.

I loved The Da Vinci Code; then I started reading the next book in the series, I did not finish it, it was nothing more than a rewrite of The Da Vinci Code. After that second book, I have not read another of his books.

There is a lot about ghostwriters surrounding him and a few of the other best sellers. More brands than actual writers, or so a lot of articles state. Patterson admits to his, easy enough to find the information if you google it.
