I don’t buy books when they have the TV or film images on it ? I’d try an find a copy with a normal book cover.

@Nikki I dislike that too.. The copy of A Discovery of Witches I’ve got has the TV characters on it

@Lauren I didn’t even know they made a tv series from that book!

Lauren

@Meghan yeah it’s just come out. Unsure if it’s aired elsewhere but it’s aired in the UK ?

I has no idea! I wonder if it air in the US. I don’t know if I’d watch it either. Can’t ruin the visions my mind made of it ??‍♀️?

Same here and if the print or feel if the paper isn’t to my liking! That’s if I’m buying them new – secondhand or given by friends I’ll have anything!

I’ll admit that I am very much influenced by the cover. I have put off reading a highly acclaimed book because its cover didn’t appeal.

Yep me too – first impressions; if the cover and title don’t spark interest, I don’t even pick it up.

Sometimes I’ll give the book a look at, as the cover can be deceptive.

I’m the same way. It only bit me in the ass once: Throne of Glass. Now I know to go by cover still, but also skim a few pages

I’m definitely guilty of judging a book by it’s cover. It needs to get my attention, and also I hate when books have tv or film images on them.

If I am just walking through a bookstore or library without a specific book in mind I will look for covers that jump out at me. I don’t do this much anymore as my TBR list is over 800 books…..

Nope, your not alone. It’s the first thing that has to grab me before I read the description.

I’m sorry to all self-published authors out there who are actually good, but I’ve been burned too many times by awful books filled with errors and nonsensical punctuation. Now if I’m in the Kindle store and I see a cover that looks like some homemade MS Paint junk, I don’t even read the synopsis. Just hard pass.

I’m that way to an extent. If I’m buying a book I used to have, or read in high school and enjoyed, I like to buy the same edition I enjoyed previously. Also, when I go to library sales and books are like $3 to fill a big bag, I will just start grabbing books with interesting covers or familiar authors, regardless of title or blurb.

I consistently judge books by their covers if I don’t know anything else about them. I know just by looking at the cover of a book whether or not I’d be interested in reading it.

It’s the cover that will get me to pick up the book. But if something is highly recommended I will pick it up regardless of the cover.

I’m a cover snob but I will read them if they are highly recommended.

When there are a LOT of books to choose from (thrift store, library clearance sale), the quickest way to find a book that appeals to you is by looking at the cover. It’s just practical.

Not me. Usually I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover. The one cover that really bothered me lately was Children of Blood and Bone. It looked scary. It wasn’t. The book is supposed to be a series for kids. The one young man I loaned it to was scared by the cover until I explained it wasn’t a scary book.

Me. I’ve found different versions of covers of the same book will appeal to me though so I dont totally rule it out, but yeah. I judge books by their covers.

Usually I am this way. If the cover looks boring and the title sounds intriguing I’ll give it a look, or vice versa.

Nope… Unless it’s an author I know, or the series is recommended to me then the cover can put me off
