@Evelyn oh my! I read that in high school. My Mom had it in a hardcover and it was considered pretty risqué at the time. I always felt sad for Amber. I was going to post that book when I saw your post.

I unfortunately loaned my Moms copy to a friend who never returned it. I remember my Mom was pretty upset as she had very few special books. I will have to start looking at thrift shops and library sales.

Most of my earliest favorite novels were written before 1950. Bronte sisters, Austen, Willa Cather, Henry James, Edith Wharton, Thomas Hardy, DH Lawrence, du Maurier, Dumas, Poe, Oscar Wilde, HG Wells, Jules Vernes, Steinbeck, etc.
