It’s a fun book, the first four or five books are all pretty fun. They don’t slow down until 6 & 7, then they crawl from 8-10, and get fun again after 11.

Yes. So good. And EOTW was awesome, so that’s saying a lot.

Great Hunt got me hooked. I hadn’t been that impressed with EotW, but a friend I trusted for book recommendations advised me to continue.

Hmmm. About 8 volumes in you might end up regretting that you didn’t bale whilst you still could! It does get very slow, and there are places that have the feel of ‘cut-paste-and-edit’; do we have to have the queen’s outfit described in laborious and almost identical detail every time she appears? I don’t go a bundle on the underlying gender politics assumptions either. But nevertheless, I rushed to get each new volume as soon as it appeared, and felt Robert Jordan’s death was most untimely (though surely not as much as did Robert Jordan himself). However, Brandon Sanderson did a really good job of finishing it off.

Yeah, I agree that Jordan realllly liked metaphors and describing things. Sometimes I just want him to move on to the next thing that actually happens! (but I still enjoy the ride)
