What’s the deal with the dragon eggs? Did you feel that the ending was satisfying? Cheesy? Random? Exciting?

** SPOILER ALERT **

I was surprised by the ending, so yes, I thought it was satisfying. When the dragon eggs felt warm to Daenerys earlier on, I had an idea that she was the dragon. I just didn’t expect the eggs to hatch! But the ending is exciting because she earned the respect of the Dothraki and they are now following her. I’m not really a feminist, but I love it when men respect a woman who is a true leader.

Like you said, the warm eggs definitely screamed something. I knew that they were going to hatch dragons, I just didn’t know what all was going to go into it.

How do you feel about Jon’s choice to join the Night Watch? Do you think he is giving up his life and his gifts/talents? Do you think his choice is an honorable one? How did you feel when the Lord Commander gave Jon his family sword?

I have mixed feelings about Jon and the Night Watch. I do think it is an honorable choice, and therefore it involves a tremendous sacrifice. But at the same time, I don’t want him to make that sacrifice. I admit I was cheering for him when he left, even though the right time to leave would have been before he took his vow (as I thought he was going to do). But his friends did the right thing in bringing him back. I think the Lord Commander gave him the sword because he recognizes Jon’s potential, and is going to groom him as his successor. Jon is going to do great things when winter arrives, I think.

I think he has so much more to give. I was kind of cheering when he ran, too!

“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.”

I love Tyrion. He’s had a hard life because of his disability but he sure doesn’t let it stop him. And as I said in the other thread, his sharp wit is so funny. He has a comeback for everything. He’s not blindly loyal to his family either. He knows they have plenty of warts, and I have a feeling that he is going to go against Cersei. Not to mention his slapping Joffrey…LOVED it!! Tyrion should repeat that action frequently.

One of my favorite Tyrion comments:

“He could end his torment,” Jaime said. “I would, if it were my son. It would be a mercy.”
“I advise against putting that suggestion to Lord Eddard, sweet brother,” Tyrion said. “He would not take it kindly.”
“Even if the boy does live, he will be a cripple. Worse than a cripple. A grotesque. Give me a good clean death.”
Tyrion replied with a shrug that accentuated the twist of his shoulders. “Speaking for the grotesques,” he said, “I beg to differ. Death is so terribly final, while life is full of possibilities.”

One more: I think this is a hint that Tyrion will stand against his siblings.
“Oh, I think that Lord Tyrion is quite a large man,” Maester Aemon said from the far end of the table. He spoke softly, yet the high officers of the Night’s Watch all fell quiet, the better to hear what the ancient had to say. “I think he is a giant come among us, here at the end of the world.”
Tyrion answered gently, “I’ve been called many things, my lord, but giant is seldom one of them.”
“Nonetheless,” Maester Aemon said as his clouded, milk-white eyes moved to Tyrion’s face, “I think it is true.”
For once, Tyrion Lannister found himself at a loss for words. He could only bow his head politely and say, “You are too kind, Maester Aemon.”

{Arya} “Besides, if a girl can’t fight, why should she have a coat of arms?”
Jon shrugged. “Girls get the arms but not the swords. Bastards get the swords but not the arms. I did not make the rules, little sister.”

What about the hard feelings between Sansa and Arya? This has the potential to become a really big deal, I think. Even though Sansa seems broken in her last chapter, if the marriage between her and Joffrey comes to pass, I think she could become a cruel woman because of Joffrey’s cruelty to her. If she does, she could cause a lot of trouble for Arya.

“Give me Cersei Lannister, Lord Karstark, and you would see how gentle a woman can be,” Catelyn replied. “Perhaps I do not understand tactics and strategy…but I understand futility. We went to war when Lannister armies were ravaging the riverlands, and Ned was a prisoner, falsely accused of treason. We fought to defend ourselves, and to win my lord’s freedom.
“Well, the one is done, and the other forever beyond our reach. I will mourn for Ned until the end of my days, but I must think of the living. I want my daughters back, and the queen holds them still. If I must trade our four Lannisters for their two Starks, I will call that a bargain and thank the gods. I want you safe, Robb, ruling at Winterfell from your father’s seat. I want you to live your life, to kiss a girl and wed a woman and father a son. I want to write an end to this. I want to go home, my lords, and weep for my husband.”
The hall was very quiet when Catelyn finished speaking.
“Peace,” said her uncle Brynden. “Peace is sweet, my lady…but on what terms? It is no good hammering your sword into a plowshare if you must forge it again on the morrow.”

I love this bit of morbid humor in Jon’s chapter: “Othor had been a big ugly man, and he made a big ugly corpse.” I couldn’t help laughing out loud!

Throughout my obsession, I’ve felt that Cersei wanted Bran dead after being caught. Everyone argues that she didn’t, but here she questions Jaime when he attempts to help. I think it was here that I started to hate Cersei.

I always thought she wanted Bran dead..

I think she wants anyone dead who might be in the way of what she wants, or might get her into trouble. There’s not an ounce of feeling in her for anyone else. Cold, cold heart.
