I’m almost halfway through, if anyone wants to discuss.

I’ll have to pull out the books, but I’m open to discuss always! I bumped these because I wasn’t sure exactly where you were!

I’m reading a chapter a day so it’s going slowly. This is actually the second read of CoK because I read pretty fast the first time and was all confused at the end, and didn’t want to go to the next book in that state of mind!

Tyrion — Chapter 29

I am so intrigued by Tyrion. He is such a contradiction. He is a Lannister, but he is so un-Lannister-like! I love his sharp wit, which often has me laughing out loud. He is definitely my favorite character.

He is power hungry, as evidenced by his thoughts at the end of Chapter 29 while he is with Shae.
QUOTE: It is real, all of it, he thought, the wars, the intrigues, the great bloody game, and me in the center of it … me, the dwarf, the monster, the one they scorned and laughed at, but now I hold it all, the power, the city, the girl. This was what I was made for, and gods forgive me, but I do love it …

BUT … back in chapter 3, when Shae asks him what he will do now that he’s Hand of the King, he tells her he will do something Cersei will never expect — he will do justice.

That sense of justice is innate — what gene did THAT come from?? Had to be his mother — and it isn’t completely overridden by his family loyalty. He doesn’t approve of his family’s behavior — Cerse, Jaime, their father, Joffrey. He can’t do much with the first three, but he tries to straighten Joffrey out as best he can.
QUOTE (chapter 8): He could not touch Cersei, he knew. Not yet, not even if he’d wanted to, and he was far from certain that he did. Yet it rankled, to sit here and make a mummer’s show of justice by punishing the sorry likes of Janos Slynt and Allar Deem, while his sister continued on her savage course.

If I didn’t have to work, clean house, do laundry, eat, etc., I would love to do an in-depth study of Tyrion. 🙂
