I do but rarely. It’s usually only to see if they’ve said anything about a book in a series I love being released soon.

I don’t have a website set up yet. I do however have a very successful FB author page and my fans love it. https://www.facebook.com/SpecialAgentJohnTreehorn/

I do sometimes, but to be honest it tends to be when I get a reminder or push to look at something, usually a link in an email etc. I think it’s more of a “time thing” than anything else not being able to visit websites routinely xx

I do especially if their books are in a series so I know which order they are read in, I have precons for reading a trilogy in the order 1, 3 then 2 and wondering why it seemed odd! ????

Thanks for your replies guys. Really helpful. I now need to think about whether or not to keep my website or just link with readers through social media 🙂

I’m keeping mine, Judith. I think you can include so much more on a website. I change mine only when a new book comes out, or if I have a new blog post. Mine also has my mail address attached. I still think it’s worth having, and it helps to point people at it now and then.

@Judith I agree with Tony. I’ve noticed an increase in sales since revamping my website and blogging on a consistent basis.

I think I need to become more au fait with blogging and updating it. I’m completely bamboozled by the whole thing xx

2
Tony

@Judith I really couldn’t quantify how necessary it might be – it’s just another presence, but a more static one, not in need of daily updates. Cost comes into it of course, but as it’s my mailbox as well then I can justify it.

Maggie

@Judith I really enjoy blogging – it’s fun, and gives me a break from writing/editing/marketing.

I need to do it for sure. Think I’ve decided to keep my website but it needs updating for sure.

I love an occasional newsletter that reminds me of an author’s website. Great for checking order of books in a series, up to date pic of author and any appearances scheduled.

Not going to lie I didn’t used to for the most part until I started a book club and then writing myself

I like to check them out to know about any series/background/events.

I check them for books – series, the order etc. Also the background of the author.

I get about 100 visitors per day to my website but I have lots of different things on there such as research updates (for my historical crime work), free recipes, celebrity interviews & travel inspiration.

I only ever looked at Sue Graftons facebook page/site. She was funny, didnt take herself too seriously and would engage with her online fans.

I’ve just been muddling through building a website so I hope it’s worth it.

Really seldom.. When I read a book I like and I want to buy others by the same author, I usually ask for them in the bookshop, or I buy them online. If I can’t find anything I visit the author website

I like Angela Marsons’books, only few of them are sold in Italy, so I visit her website to see if there are new ones. The problem is that the English title is different, so once I bought a book I already had ?

Emma

Yes. I visit sometimes if I want to know the order of a series or keep up to date with new releases.

Not very often. Most are boring. I like David Gaughran’s site because it’s more about supporting and helping writers indie pub.

I do as a reader and an author, I am still getting mine up and running.

Depends on the author, I do if it’s someone I’m really keen on. An author whose books are an automatic purchase and the next instalment is eagerly awaited. I agree with Mark above, sometimes FB (or social media in general) is a better fit these days. It’s nice to get some interaction with the author, as long as the posts don’t appear to come exclusively from their Publishers or PR Team.

For somebody like me who isn’t altogether comfortable with how websites work, social media perfect as we can alter our pages, interact with readers etc without having to know all about using websites properly 🙂

Zoe

Definitely makes sense. Plus the immediacy of it is so helpful. For instance, you can message anyone in real time to get their opinion or advice. As a reader I’ve been chuffed to get feedback from an author who said that they were heartened by a review on Good Reads or to get a response from another on FB when I said that I was looking forward to their next book. It’s a boost to both sides. I just started following you on GR by the way. Good luck with the next book.
