A Little Life. Yes or No?
Yes! BUT, be warned that the first 100 pages won’t really grip you and will have you struggling to keep going. Get through them and you will be gripped by an extremely powerful and emotive read that will stay with you for a long time afterwards.
Good advice! A book that stays with you for a long time. Harrowing, exhausting but brilliant book.
It is an excellent book, but very, VERY depressing. I am so glad that I read it, but I’m glad that I was in a good place personally when I read it.
First half no…..second half yes!
Totally agree!!!! Great book, still think it!
Yes definately. First 100 pages are a bit hard going but then….well I couldn’t put it down.
Yes!!! Loved it
One of the worst pieces of garbage I have ever read in my entire life.
I wrote this about it in the post below this one: I finished it but it made me rage. Hated it. The characters were awful and so god damn predictable. And the plot? Okay. Couldn’t be more unrealistic. All of them had that level of unprecedented success seemingly without even trying? Okay. And Jude. Ugh!! Never has there been a more irritating main character. I can appreciate a frustrating character when the intent is for them to be. But this is a guy I was supposed to have some empathy for? Get the fuck out of here.
Shit. Now I have to read it.
I loved it!
it is so controversial that i must read it. thank you everyone
No! I actually feel like I wasted a large chunk of my life reading it …. but I know loads of others loved it
A very unique book describing horrific abuse and subsequent lifelong behavioural issues; however it makes for quite heavy reading of depressing subject matters. If you are looking for book with a happy ending this is not it!
Great book until the last 100 pages when it completely degenerates into an unrelenting process of self flagellation, which is a great shame
Yes yes yes.
NO!!! Don’t do it! Annoying self pitying characters and repetitive writing which, despite the heavy subject, leaves you empty and rolling your eyes… Oh here we go again, what’s he whining about this time….
Perfect description really.
Yes. But don’t expect an easy ride
It’s a game changer book – beautifully written, heartbreaking but inspiring at the same time.
One of my favourites of 2017
Yes yes yes !
Yes, yes, yes!!!
No, too long, and don’t get me wrong I LOVE big books but this one , you can easily get rid of at least 200 pages, too repetitive, too depressing with no plot , just suffering, awful characters
I thought it was an achievement by the author. Made me realise that victim’s of child abuse don’t just ‘get over it’, even when they are surrounded by people who love them unconditionally. The scars are there for life.
Hard to get into, but worth persevering
A thousand times YES!!!! This is THE best book I have read. Ever. Fact!
Yes, yes, yes!!
Yes, Yes, Yes …
YES YES YES
Yes but be prepared for it to take over. The characters are still with me.
It definitely takes over! I had a serious Book Hangover after I finished it! I could only read non-fiction for a good few months after that!
I so want to read it and so want to love it like so many do. But I’ve tried it three times and not got very far. Not sure whether to try it again.
I did exactly the same, third time I got into it and so pleased I preserved, I still think about it, amazing book!
Never heard of it!
I’ve tried too but have been told it’s brilliant and must try again
Yes yes yes
I’ve just started it. I hope the hype doesn’t spoil it. Too early for me to know. Will report back when I’ve finished!
@Jo I am SO impressed!!!!
Amazing book, still think about it! X
Can’t wait for you to read it @Jo
A thousand times Yes!
Also, try not to read any of the comments here. You don’t need other folks expectations placed over your own experience x
@Jason I typed your name and bailed ?
Definitely YES. It gave me an epic book hangover after I’d finished it and I couldn’t read any more fiction for quite a while, but it was worth it for that epic!
Def yes. I just finished it. I’m bereft.
Yes but it is not an easy read both in length and subject matter.
Lol lots of definitive answers here. I guess it’s a “love it or hate it” kind of thing
yes…. its a tough emotional read. You will have to stop to breathe. Then read on after crying your heart out.
I did that various times. Had to put it down in shock of certain things then missed it so carried on. What a book!!
Me too. I have to do something else in between. Reading it right now ?
I would love to read it again but it was so incredibly touching and it took a bit of my heart, I don’t want to ruin what I had. But I miss Jude!
For sure but be prepared!
A fellow Pollins! There are so few of us!!!!
@Jessica I married into the name!! Not sure -we may even be related!!
Ahh! Welcome by marriage ?there was another pollins who I met on here, weren’t related but became great friends…
Yes but so sad
No no no. So disappointed.
Hated it. So long & I thought it lingered over pointless details.
No. Unrealistic characters and relationships and a lot of details just to add unnecesary drama.
Yes but you will have to stick with it, for the first few hundred pages you won’t understand it! Keep going.
Yes! Amazing book.
100% yes!!! But be prepared that you won’t be able to read another book for a long time after!
Yes – takes a while to get into but so worth it !!!!
