The Green Mile, Under the Dome oh, Stephen King as himself!! He wrote that one to discuss his writing techniques and way of character development ~ loved it!!
You will enjoy any of the books of King’s that you read~!!

His characters are always interactive, which makes all of his books like a universe of their own. Most of them tie back to the Dark Tower books. Some tie back to his short stories. But you almost never just see a name once in his books.

It might be a good idea to start from the beginning, based on which books he wrote first. Some of them intertwine with little tidbits of info. The first three are Carrie, Salem’s Lot, and The Shining.

Tons. But once you start, you’ll fly through them. I know I do, anyway. I adore him. My favorites of all time are The Dark Tower Series, The Stand, Duma Key, Skeleton Crew (short stories), The Shining and Pet Semetary.

Autumn

It’s hard to say because they’re broken up into different categories like novels, collections, nonfiction, etc. He also writes under the pen name “Richard Bachman” and some of his novels are co written and aren’t always included in the count. Just know that it’s a lot.

1
Christie

Also, his son – who writes under the name Joe Hill – is a great horror writer too. Heart Shaped Box is one of my favorites. Even more twisted than some of his Dad’s stuff.

Stephen King is and will forever be my favorite horror author, this is the last Stephen Kings book and in my opinion, its a great read. Without giving any spoiler alerts, this book is three different stories and each one to me had it’s on excitement, thrills and chills. After reading the book, some months later my sister was watching a movie on television and once she told me about the movie, I realized it was based on one of the stories in this book. Under The Dome is great as well. Happy readings, but which ever book you chose, being its Stephen King, I think you’ll enjoy it

I’m currently reading The Long Walk, which he wrote in college in the late 60s, early 70s and then released under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman. Rumor has it, a movie is in the works…

Depends on what you are looking for. If you want to get creepy, Salem’s Lot and Pet Semetary are on the top of my list, fast read with supernatural would be Duma Key, Tailisman/Black House and Shining/Doctor Sleep. Looking for a thriller Mr. Mercedes series, The Dark Half. Classic Stephen King would be It, The Stand, and The Dark Tower series. I have read all of his books and he isn’t just a horror writer, he bounces back and forth between genres and overlaps themes. He is amazing! I hope this helps some 🙂

Joe Hill-his son- wrote “Strange Weather” and it is amazing. He has published numerous books that are very good. Stephen King and his son Owen King wrote “Sleeping Beauties” and it is a fantastic book. Pretty brave for the children of such a well known author to even want to write, let alone the same genre as their famously brilliant dad, and be able to pull it off. I am getting ahead of myself I know, but anyone who loves Stephen King (like me, evidently lol) should check out these novels. I have enjoyed all of Joe Hill’s novels. He purposely did not use his dad’s name so that he could see if his writing was good enough to snag readers on it’s own merit -without fans of his father’s scrambling to pick up his work just because he shares the same DNA as their favourite author. Admittedly, I scrambled to pick up Joe Hill’s work only because he shares the same DNA as his father (after his paternity had been revealed) lol. But, I was not disappointed. Honestly, he can write. Impressively.

@Kris you won’t be disappointed. Start with “Strange Weather”, and “NOS4A2” by Joe Hill and “Sleeping Beauties” by Owen King/Stephen King. They are very good. Fantastically terrifying in their own right!!!

@Kris let me know what you think when you finish!!!! The only book I really didn’t love by Joe Hill was “The Fireman”, but I was distracted reading it. Other people really love it.

Which was the book where the main character lost his wife and child, went to live in a cabin in the woods and there was something creepy about the river?

I haven’t read Stephen King for years but feel inspired to reread a lot of old favourites, especially Thinner.

He’s from my home state of Maine. I have an autographed copy of Carrie from when I met him the first time. I’m a former teacher so getting books to children when books aren’t the priority is a must. We have the only two free libraries in a school that I know of anywhere.

HaileeQuestion author

@Bertha that’s so cool! I’ve never had an autographed book, I’d love to come to a book signing one day.
So neat that he helps the community! Good for him!

He and his wife Tabitha who also writes donate lots of money in Maine. Pretty cool guy but since his accident you don’t see him out like you once did. Book signings are neat.

The Stand was my favorite of Kings books. I’ve read all his books, but that was the only book I kept. Read it three times to be sure I wanted to keep it…lol I read The Shining late into the night and the wind blowing into the room through the sliding glass door frightened me. King made even the wind a scary creature.

Angela, it really isn’t for everyone. The first 4 books are amazing, but then it starts to get a little strange in parts. Most people I know hated the ending. Like wanted to throw the book across the room hated it. I kind of liked it,but I am weird like that.

You know, I loved Salem’s lot. But, a long time ago, I read “Harvest Home” by Thomas Tryon. It was without a doubt a page turner. Scary in that it was so sneaky. Things turned from quiet and calm to scary as hell. I have an old copy I bought for 50 cents that is rather dilapidated but will read it again, even thought a page is missing. Really a scary book.

@Hailee all good ones!! Of course, then again I think 85% of his books are awesome, lol. I have reread all you have listed multiple times. Dr. Sleep was so good and I read it so fast that I put it down and then reread it a week later. Salem’s Lot has Vampires, and who doesn’t love vampires?? Also, if you have any interest in reading The Dark Tower series in the future, The Stand and Salem’s Lot are crucial books for that, since he overlaps and intertwines his books a lot. Good luck! I hope when you are done, that you love his books at least half as much as I do ?

HaileeQuestion author

@Kris as much as I like scary movies and this being my first scary book, I’m sure I will be an avid King fan in no time!
