I read for pleasure as well, but doing the yearly book challenges opens my mind and eyes to books I wouldn’t normally pick. 90% of the time I enjoy the books I choose for the challenges. Reading shouldn’t be limited to just one specific genre. If it weren’t for the book challenges, I never would have read my favorite book, A Man Called Ove because at face value it didn’t interest me.
I’m doing the Read Harder Challenge. I’ve done it the last two years. It has really gotten me to branch out beyond my usual reading material. This past year we had a book club focused on the Read Harder Challenge – every month we got together and talked about the books we read in each category. I got a lot of good suggestions that way!!
I already have an ordered list of book sources to guide me, which leads me to a lot of things outside my comfort zone, so I’m challenging myself enough.
Trying to avoid challenges in 2018. I attempted four last year, too much replication. My challenge is to read in my shelves, and more read more with my husband. I plan to alphabetical and merge my fiction and cull at the same time. Not enough room for all the books (I am not going to say too many books!)
Totally agree Kimberly. I want to start an alternative book where we meet up once a month and discuss the books we as individuals have been reading and can recommend.
I decided that I’m doing/following a few challenges so that when I am looking for a “next” I can see what areas I neglected. I’m not competing or reading only those lists though.
No I am doing the Popsugar Reading Challenge but there are cross overs….
It’s interesting just trying to find the books!
I’ll have to look at popsugar also.
I’ve done it for several years and it’s really diversified my reading. I’ve learned so much and I’ve found so many amazing books this way!
Where are these challenges?
http://popsugar.com/ and http://readingriot.com/
I am new to this club….and to the Read Harder challenge. Can you tell me more?
No. Reading for me is a pleasure, not a challenge.

What’s the read harder challenge?
I’m going to stick to my own challenge.
Absolutely. My friends and I have a book group around it that we started last year.
Hey I would like to know about read Harder challenge can you tell me more

I’m doing Read Harder to help me branch out. I decided to skip Pop Sugar. I’m also in a couple others. We’ll see how I do.
That’s why I’m doing Read Harder. Think one challenge is enough for me.
I’m going to try both of these challenges this year. Good luck everyone who is attempting them too!

I haven’t been buying books. I get from the library or Kindle deals. I recently bought some paperbacks I could use for swapping.
Never! A book challenge, or a book club, is SUCH a kill joy for my reading.

Agreed-it’s like the reading logs from elementary school!
What is that
Do you mean the challenge? If so, look in earlier comments.
I decided that I’m doing/following a few challenges so that when I am looking for a “next” I can see what areas I neglected. I’m not competing or reading only those lists though.
Usually I do themes (space, girl power) but this year I decided to try Modern Mrs. Darcy’s challenge.
