Awesome Urban Fantasy — my favorite!
The Sight by Chloe Neill

Genres: Urban Fantasy
The paranormal war that engulfed New Orleans seven years ago is over. But the battle for the city is just beginning . . .
Claire Connolly is a Sensitive, infected with magic when the Veil that divides humanity from the world beyond fell. Magic can easily consume and destroy a Sensitive, and if Claire’s secret is discovered she’ll be locked into the walled district of Devil’s Isle along with every other Paranormal left in the city.
Bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered Claire’s secret, but refused to turn her in. Together they saved New Orleans from the resurgence of magic that nearly destroyed it. But now a dangerous cult is on the rise, and it will take both Claire and Liam—and magical allies within Devil’s Isle’s towering walls—to defeat the occult threat before magic corrupts them both…
Can I just say once more that urban fantasy is my very favorite genre? And that there’s not nearly enough awesome UF out there to suit my reading speed or desires? But then, along comes Chloe Neill with a new series set in NOLA (The Veil) and a second book, The Sight, that just release. *high fives Chloe*
Claire is a native New Orleans citizen, proud of her city and her heritage, even though NOLA is looking a little tattered around the edges these days, what with the battle against the denizens beyond the Veil and subsequent closing of the Veil. Unfortunately, the city is now host to an area called “Devil’s Isle”, where those with even the smallest lick of magic are locked up…for their own protection, of course. And Claire has recently discovered that she’s a sensitive…and that her father was, as well (though he didn’t tell her and she’s rather upset about that).
The first story introduced us to Claire, her friends and her world, while The Sight focuses more on the moral implications of keeping people (and creatures) contained behind walls without trial (think a combo of Guantanamo and Trump’s imaginary Wall…). Add in the rise of a dangerous cult bent on destroying all paranormals no matter their guilt or innocence) and, boom, tension galore.
As always, Neill’s world is solidly developed, her dark story moments balanced with light and humor, and her characters are people I wouldn’t mind hanging out with. There’s some romantic tension in the air, as Claire and smexy bounty hunter Liam struggle with their attraction (will they or won’t they?). I really enjoyed the first book in this series but I think I like The Sight even more. Let’s hope there’s plenty more of this most excellent urban fantasy to come!
