Pre-Squee: Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh

Welcome to the Pre-Squee, a feature here at The Book Swarm and the fabulous Bewitched Bookworms. Some books, though they might not be coming out for a few months (or a month, in this case), need an early squee — we just can’t hold in our excitement about them! This feature gives us a chance to share a little bit of our love with our favorite people just a little bit early, whether it be for the story, cover, characters, or whatever. We’re quite flexible in our book love.

Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.
Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows...and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…

Seriously, y’all. Nalini Singh can do no wrong for me. I absolutely love her writing, characters and the worlds that she’s created, so much so that I’ve done a couple of rereads. Yeah, I’m a fangirl and I’m pretty certain that, should I ever meet her in person, I’d be a sqeeing fangirl all over the place and make a desperate fool of myself. It would be totally worth it.

The eighth installment in the Guild Hunter series, Archangel’s Engima picks up right after the battle against the archangel Lijuan, as the Archangel of New York and his people set out to rebuild. And, yay, this story features Naasir! Holy cow, this dude is one of my favorite characters. He’s all alpha and deadly but he’s also got an almost childlike quality about him because he’s so close to his animal side. It’s a mystery to just about everyone as to what exactly our boy is but that just adds to his “enigma” status.

Andromeda only has a couple of days left of freedom before she has to return to her cruel grandfather’s court and what better way to spend it than racing around the globe, searching for a lost book and helping to reawaken a sleeping archangel with the most adorable Naasir? Nothing, that’s what! Okay, I need to stop myself before I tell everything awesome about this story. It’s supposed to just be a pre-squee, after all. Not a squee-about-everything post. But really, just read it. And, if you haven’t started this series, pick it up!

  1. YES MARY!!!!!! Nalini Singh can do no wrong for me either, I haven’t read a book of hers yet I haven’t fallen madly in love with. And Naasir? SO ADORABLE! In a lethal kind of way of course.

Also, is it me, or does it seem like Illiam and Aodhan are more than friends? I approve of this development and want their story right. This. Minute. 🙂
