FIRST DATE: Plop a kickass chick down in New Orleans and what do you get? The food-obsessed Ivy. Luckily, she lives in New Orleans, a food mecca that can satisfy her cravings (it’s totally on my bucket list to visit! I need to go all tourist and have some beignets from Cafe Monde. Darned book made me hungry, too.). How does she stay fit and healthy, chowing on all that yummy food? Why, she hunts those nasty Fae, of course! Those bad, bad Fae who lure poor, innocent humans down back alleys and do terrible things to them (and not in the good way). Smart girl. Maybe I need to take up her workout regime.
SECOND DATE: Then there’s Ren. He’s a combination of wannabe, someday I’ll be alpha and cute schoolboy. Personally, I think he’s been watching too much porn as he does like to utter those cheesy one-liners like, “I wanna hear you scream my name when you come.” but he’s young yet. Plenty of time for Ivy to train him up right. Maybe he needs an older woman. A little experience under his belt and some guidance as to how to avoid being a douchenozzle and then he’ll be more than ready for a girl like Ivy. Still, she more than holds her own with him, not falling immediately into his arms when he comes a-calling, despite the sparks between the two of them.
THIRD DATE: Overall, while this wasn’t my very favorite Armentrout, it was definitely a lot of fun, filled with action, romance and plenty of humor. Actually, I think that’s my favorite part, the humor. As long as there’s snarkiness (Ivy has that in spades) and quirky characters (ooh! I haven’t mentioned Tink! He’s a crazy little brownie who winds up rooming with Ivy, despite the fact that she’s supposed to kill all those pesky Fae…but she just can’t bring herself to do it. Now, he does remind me a lot of Jenks from The Hollows series by Kim Harrison but that might just be because he’s snarky and small.). *raises pint in Armentrout’s direction* Nicely done.
