Once the night comes . . .

Will Thorne is living a nightmare, his sanity slowly being drained away by a force he can't control. His talents have made him the perfect assassin for hire. But as he loses his grip on reality, there is no calming him-until he finds his next target: the mysterious Holly Evernight.

Love must cast aside the shadows

Holly cannot fathom who would put a contract on her life, yet the moment she touches Will, the connection between them is elemental, undeniable-and she's the only one who can tame his bouts of madness. But other assassins are coming for Holly. Will must transform from killer to protector and find the man who wants Holly dead . . . or his only chance for redemption will be lost.

FIRST DATE: First off, this is like getting set up on a great date by a friend who’d never steer you wrong. You know that, even if there aren’t sparks, you’re going to have a good time. Luckily, in this case, there was plenty of chemistry. It did take me a bit to get re-oriented in this world, however. I didn’t really remember Nex or SOS or even that Holly was one of the sisters from the previous books (yeah, it makes me wonder what kind of vacation my brain went on, too.). Even with that gaping blank in my memory, I had very little problem diving straight into this story (which bodes well for those of you cursing me for talking about a FIFTH book in yet ANOTHER series…sorry, y’all. I do love my UF and PNR series something fierce. Still, I do recommend reading at least Shadowdance, book 4, first).

SECOND DATE: The story starts off with Holly forced to do terrible things to Will in some dark, dank torture chamber. Will, of course, is quite put out by his treatment and vows revenge against the (seemingly) emotionless woman who replaced his heart with a clockwork heart and started his transformation into a creature of metal.  But Will is unable to complete his mission, considering he’s turning into metal and Holly controls metal, and they realize that both are wounded parties in this matter so, instead, they join forces to protect Holly from the assassins determined to end her life while trying to save Will from being consumed by the platinum taking over his body.

THIRD DATE: It’s a match made in heaven, especially since Will gets such pleasure in pushing all of Holly’s buttons. Brilliant scientist Holly gets delight in outfoxing Will even as Will breaks down her protective walls with his vulnerability and exceptionally dirty talk (I mean, this man is so crude sometimes, it’s a little jarring but it works so well with who and what he is). Of course they can’t resist each other. It’s a match made in heaven. (Or hell, as the case may be) and such a joy to watch them try to resist their attraction while bantering and flirting like fiends. A smolderingly hot, sexy and highly enjoyable addition to the Darkest London series. Will’s a fabulous date!

  1. I’ve heard of this series tons of times but most admit I know nothing about it. Does each book feature a new set of characters? I do like the sound of Holly and Will (especially Will) so i’m intrigued! Great review 🙂

  2. I haven’t read any of the books in this series, how much do I fail Mary? SO MUCH! And of course you’ve only made me curious by mentioning his penchant for dirty talk, I can’t help but want to know what he says 😉 Yet another series I need to add to my list!

  3. I want to know how you keep all the characters and worlds straight in the bajillion epic long series you’re reading. Do you make charts? Or do you have a mind of steel? I don’t think I could manage it as well! Anyway, I do love when a romance starts off antagonistically like this one and has to develop from there. This dynamic between the 2 sounds particularly fun, but I’m not sure about investing in the first 4 to get here.
