Welcome to the Pre-Squee, a weekly feature here at The Book Swarm and the Bewitched Bookworms. Some books, though they might not be coming out for a few months, need an early squee — we just can’t hold in our excitement about them! Sure, we’ll do full reviews closer to the release date but this feature gives us a chance to share a little bit of our love, whether it be for the story, cover, characters, or whatever. We’re quite flexible in our book love.

Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s sensual and painfully beautiful Guild Hunter world in her new novel of sacrifice, loyalty, and the choices of love that can shatter the heart.

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot— should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

Nalini Singh can do no wrong. Seriously. I adore her Psy/Changeling series as well as her Guild Hunter series, both paranormal romance series. And in October (my birthday month — must be why there are so many awesome books coming out then), the seventh in her Guild Hunter series releases. If you haven’t started this series and you love great PNR, you need to. While you can jump in the middle, you’re much better off starting at the beginning.

Archangel’s Shadows picks up after a major battle. Everyone’s in recovery mode and not quite equipped to deal with the wave of violence that follows an eerily familiar pattern (supposedly dead crazy archangel? Oh, noes!). So, while Rafael and Elena work to bring the city to order and help heal their people, the odd couple team of Ash and Janvier are called upon to figure out what in the world is going on. The best thing about these two? They’ve been playing a game of chase for years. Tensions are high. Chemistry is through the roof… *sigh* It’s lovely. Most definitely worth a pre-squee.

And, look! It’s not months and months from the release date! Just two. Two months and then you too can read about Ash and Janvier. Plenty of time to catch up, if you need to. Or start the series, if you haven’t yet. Go on. We’ll wait.
