Ooh, it’s that time again! The best day of the week (well, maybe not–the weekends are the best ’cause there’s no work). But I do love getting together with the girls and dishing hot covers. Yay!

This week, I have a warrior for you. A warrior with very pet-able abs and fake dirt all over him. And we can’t forget that chiseled jaw. That goes a long way, you know? I bought this book completely for the cover. Yes, I’m a cover ‘ho and I’m not afraid to admit it.

This was a quick read and there was a lot going on in it — some good and some, well, I needed more. With only 249 pages, the characters had little time to meet, fall in love and get out of the situation they were in alive. As the “warning” at the end of the blurb says, this book does, indeed, contain plenty of sarcasm and crazy werewolves who are also soldiers. When Captain Jack Harper (a bit close to Torchwood’s Jack Harkness but I’m good with just about any Jack. It’s a good, solid hero name, IMP.) catches scent of Lillian Rosewood, he and his wolf know that she’s “their’s” and he has to both claim and protect her. A little different and similar than many werewolf books I’ve read, as these weres are soldiers on the run, it was a fun read nonetheless.

Monsters do exist...and they’re the good guys. Lillian Rosewood leads an ordinary, boring life working as the manager of a psychiatric hospital. The highlights of her day, other than her skinny hot chocolate, are the hunky guards who work in the secure section. Until a late-night emergency is wheeled in.

Captain Jack Harper is insane, drop-dead gorgeous...and just had his abdomen shredded. Despite the fact they're not an emergency room, Lillian can't turn him away and risk a death on her hands. Unable to get the handsome soldier out of her mind, Lillian sneaks into the restricted area to check on him. What she finds is beyond belief. Somehow Jack has managed to heal himself from a near-fatal wound in mere hours.

When one of the doctors, Walker, attempts to rape her, things go from bad to worse. In the blink of an eye, Jack is loose and Walker is dead... and Lillian must accept a truth about her rescuer that will change her world forever. What if the patients aren't insane? What if their stories of secret government experiments and monsters are true?

Warning: Contains blood, mayhem and nude werewolves operating heavy weaponry. Large amounts of sarcasm and smart-ass vampires may offend some readers. No civilian hospital staff were harmed in the making of this story.

  1. I missed my nude dude Tuesday, Mary! And you’re right, warrior or not, this one has very petable abs. It’s multipurpose: you can entertain yourself by bouncing quarters off of it, you can use it as a pillow, you can… well, I have other ideas, but they can’t really be shared here.

  2. I would comment on this weeks cover but I really couldn’t make it past your new Top Off Tuesday button. THAT guy has great abs!

  3. Love the abs but I’m sure about the added dirt. It does look very fake and what is that green triangle at the bottom? Is that goo of some sort? Nice to hear you had fun with this. I do love shapeshifter stories, especially when the male is nice and possessive (no judging!). Great ToT, Mary! 🙂

  4. So at first I thought you had given the cover a 3, and I was like . . . that cover deserves more than a 3 . . . LOL. But can you blame me from getting distracted from the review? No . . . not really . . . you can’t 😉 Congrats on the move, and sorry of the mediocre read, but if you look at SERIOUSLY hot guy on the cover, you’ll feel better. PROMISE.
