Pre-Squee: Outlander on Starz

Pre-Squee_MaryWelcome to the Pre-Squee, a new weekly feature here at  The Book Swarm and the gorgeous ladies over at Bewitched Bookworms. Some books, though they might not be coming out for a few months, need an early squee — we just can’t hold in our excitement about them! Sure, we’ll do full reviews closer to the release date but this feature gives us a chance to share a little bit of our love, whether it be for the story, cover, characters, or whatever. We’re quite flexible in our book love.

I’ll admit it; I’m excited and, yeah, technically, this isn’t a book (but it’s based on one so that totally counts) but it does premier on Starz August 9th. I didn’t love Outlander the first time I read it but was convinced to read it again and, yeah. I’m in. Men in kilts, Scottish accents, Jamie…all brought to the wee screen in a sweeping story as The Skye Boat Song plays during the opening credits. *swoon* Did I just add Starz to my lineup? Yes, I did. Even as I was thinking about dropping cable to save some money (Mar needs a new car), they pull me back in!

Opening credits:

Chat with the adorable author, Diana Gabaldon:

And, because I can’t help myself, a piping video (hey, modern day Scots! In kilts!). Field Marshal Montgomery is the best pipe band in the world (literally — they won the World Championships nine times including the last three years. This is how pipes are supposed to sound, people. Perfection.) and, though they’re technically from Northern Ireland, I won’t hold it against them:

  1. OoOOoo I am so so soooo freaking excited for this series! I loved Outlander so damn much. I think I reread the first 4 books at least 4 times. Well, and then I stopped because the series got boring. But the first book are phenomenal and I’m so pre-squeeing with you about this series!

    Perfect Pre-Squee my friend!

  2. I actually wasn’t the biggest fan of Outlander either Mary, maybe I just need to give it another try? I get the appeal of Jamie (Jaime?) for sure, but there was one thing he did in the story that I just couldn’t quite get past so I stopped reading. Might have to give it another go because I cannot WAIT for the show! The kilts! The ACCENTS! *dies*

  3. I have to admit I still haven’t read this book. My friend Maggie has been on me about reading it for years now. I own it of course but I don’t know I’ve never been a huge historical romance fan. I’ll give the show a shot but then I don’t want much tv (other than FACEOFF, The Big Bang Theory and Grimm…and usually I just let those episodes accumulate on the DVR) lol

  4. I feel like I’m the only one who hasn’t read this series yet. Then, there’s always the great debate of whether you should watch the movie to avoid disappointment or should I read the books first so I can compare and see.

I usually read right before it comes out. It’s probably what I’ll end up doing 🙂
