Waiting on: Atlantia by Ally Condie

I know, I know. I should be happy with the fantastic books I just got from BEA. But I can’t help myself. I’m a greedy, greedy girl who wants ALL THE BOOKS. Atlantia was one of the samples Penguin gave out during BEA. Samples annoy me. Samples might work for some people but they just frustrate me (much like serials that I have to wait more than a day for). I’m intrigued by this one, which looks to be a standalone (I’m guessing–there’s no series name or number after the title in Goodreads), which is a huge positive.

I like the simplicity of the cover and the beautiful shell. Though, to be honest, the cover echoes a lot of the harder erotica books, with just an object and not much else on the cover. Positive this isn’t erotica, and I’m pretty sure that’s not what the cover meant to bring to mind. Oops.

YA Fantasy
368 pages, hardcover
Expected publication: October 28, 2014
Publisher: Dutton Children’s

Can you hear Atlantia breathing?

For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamt of the sand and sky Above—of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all her plans for the future are thwarted when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long hidden—she has nothing left to lose.

Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the complex system constructed to govern the divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.

  1. I know!!! I am so excited about this one too and then they were handing out samples?!?!? I was so sad and shocked – same with The Elites… I mean, hello?! Yeah samplers do also not work for me – but I am SUPER excited for this one too!

  2. Yes, I’m really excited about Atlantia as well. The cover is simple, but gorgeous right? I’ve been waiting for a underwater world story like this for awhile, and can’t wait for this one. No samples please, we need the book. 🙂

  3. Samples annoy me too Mary! I was so hoping this one would be at BEA in full, but oh well. I’ll just go pre-order it on Amazon after I’m done commenting:) Cannot wait for this one!

  4. I totally get why samples would annoy you, Mary! I’m not a patient person, so they don’t work for me either. I want the WHOLE story, thank you very much. Hope you get your hands on this soon! 🙂

  5. Great choice! This one sounds really cool and interesting. I haven’t read Ally Condie’s other work but this one sounds right up my alley.

I’m with you on the only getting samplers! I understand why publishers do it but I rarely read them. Penguin loves them though.

  6. I’m so with you on the samples!!! I don’t even bother reading them. This does sound good and I hadn’t heard of it yet!

  7. Haha I love that your mind went to erotica from that cover – it’s true! I couldn’t agree more about samples, ugh what’s the point? I always get frustrated and want more or just go “meh” and then forget about the rest of the book. I’m looking forward to this one too!
