Waiting On: The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

I really enjoyed The Bone Season when it came out last year and have been looking forward to the second in the series. Granted, it wasn’t perfect but, because I missed out on much of the hype surrounding its release since I’d read it so far before it’s actual release, I think maybe I enjoyed it more than I would have otherwise (I’m contrary like that).

Not a fan of the title (Mimes? *shudder* Creepy bastards.) but I like how the cover works with the first one and it makes me curious about what the “2” in the corner means as well as the blue and white butterflies.

YA Fantasy
320 pages, hardcover
Expected publication: October 21, 2014
Publisher: Bloomsbury

Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal penal colony of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the fugitives are still missing and she is the most wanted person in London.

As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on Paige, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city’s gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take center stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner.

Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided. Will Paige know who to trust? The hunt for the dreamwalker is on.

Waiting On is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

  1. I can’t wait for this one!! I LOVED the first book and it totally took me by surprise by how amazing it was! Maybe the “2” means that it’s book 2? Too bad it’s not at BEA ;(

  2. Oh I can’t wait for this book either Mary, despite The Bone Season being really hard to get into at first, I ended up loving it. Also my bookstore is currently offering signed copies if I pre-order, so win-win!

  3. I love how well this cover ties into the first, too! I think it’s great when series keep their covers fairly fluid. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the premise is fantastic, as well. Obviously, I’m lusting after this, too. Great pick this week, Mary πŸ™‚

  4. I agree, Mimes are creepy! I haven’t picked up this series but I’ve heard really good things. Maybe you’ll get a copy at the BEA? Hope you do, Mary. πŸ™‚
