While Morganville, Texas, is often a troubled town, Claire Danvers and her friends are looking forward to coming home. But the Morganville they return to isn’t the one they know; it’s become a different place—a deadly one…
Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.
It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.
Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end.
This book is actually rather bittersweet because it’s The End. The end of an era. Fifteen Morganville Vampire books. The end of Claire and the gang running around, battling vampires, befriending vampires and generally trying not to get drained and left for dead. It’s been a great run and I’m sad to see it go.
While this book wasn’t as great as others in the series, it worked as an ending. Claire et al have come back to Morganville and are having to deal with Daylighters. At first glance, that doesn’t seem like such a bad thing, considering humans are, for once, safe and able to walk around freely both during the day and the night. But all is not right in Morganville. The Daylighters have rounded up all the vamps and put them in a prison camp, while keeping them shock collared and weak with lack of blood. What’s Claire and the Scooby Gang to do? Should they rescue the vampires or should they let them rot and keep the humans free? Choices, choices.
Of COURSE, they free the vamps, though their hand is forced by the Daylighters and their actions against the gang. Plus, how could Claire say no to Myrnin or let him die? She can’t.
The gang’s all here: Claire, Shane, Michael (I feel like we should join hands and sing, “Now, it’s time to say goodbye…”), Myrnin, Oliver, Jesse, Eve…everyone. Loose ends are tied up, bad guys are dealt with…it’s over. *sniffle* Bye, Morganvilleites. It’s been a blast.
