Senior year is positively hair-raising.
Kate Grable is geeked out to shadow the county medical examiner as part of her school’s pre-med program. Except when he’s arrested for murder, she’s left with the bodies. And when Kate’s brother Jonah stumbles upon a dead gamer girl, she realizes that the zombie epidemic she cured last fall was only the beginning of the weirdness taking over her town. Someone’s murdering kids—something really hairy. And strong. Possibly with claws.
Is it werewolf awesomeness like Jonah and his dorktastic friends think? Kate’s supposed to be a butt-kicking zombie killing genius…but if she can’t figure out who’s behind the freakish attacks, the victims—or what’s left of them—are going to keep piling up.
It’s scary. It’s twisted. It’s sick. It’s high school.
Zombies and dorks and werewolves — oh, my! Smarticus Kate finds herself hip-deep in bodies once again, this time with an overly-hairy murder running amok (zombies are so last year).
Her fame from curing the zombie epidemic has led to several opportunities including working with actual real doctors and, though she winds up with the county medical examiner, she’s still jazzed about it. When he’s arrested, she sticks around, curious about the oddly mangled bodies turning up on the slabs. *rubs hands in glee* It’s another paranormal mystery and quirky Kate is on the job!
Kate’s family is just as quirky as she is. Her brother, Jonah, has gone full-on zombie hunter, even attracting a few followers of the female persuasion and he’s locked and loaded for bear when he hears Kate’s investigating the murders and their possibly paranormal origins.
There’s a bit of romance, too, as Kate is still seeing Aaron, the smart football player she hooked up with in the last book. Marring Kate’s bliss is Elle, an aggressively annoying chickadee who keeps hitting on Aaron. But Kate’s no pushover and, despite her preoccupation with the weird murders and obvious unfamiliarity in dealing with boys and boyfriends, she isn’t about to let some girl get between her and her man.
A mystery most excellent; a quirky, brilliant heroine; just enough paranormal to satisfy; and giggle-inducing writing makes BAD HAIR DAY a fun, fantastic read.
