Posted 29 July, 2012 | Mary @ TheBookSwarm | Giveaway | 29 Comments

Today’s stop on the Reading Road Trip takes us to the wonderful country of Canada! I’m not from Canada (I do have a great-aunt and extended family up there) but I’ve spent a lot of time up there and it’s fabulous. Nicest, most polite people ever, beautiful, national healthcare, and super-duper cold.
Cool Facts about Canada:
  • Size of Canada: 9,984,670 sq. km
  • Population: 34.6 million (2011)
  • Basketball was invented by a Canadian – Dr. James Naismith
  • Canadians consume more mac and cheese than any other nation on the planet (SOURCE)
  • A Tuque is a type of hat
  • Money includes coins called Loonies ($1) and Toonies ($2)
  • Poutine–fries covered with brown gravy and cheese curds–originated in Quebec
  • Famous Canadians include: William Shatner, Keanu Reeves, Kiefer Southerland, Pamela Anderson, Alexander Graham Bell, Sarah McLaughlin
  • Famous Canadian Authors include: Margaret Atwood (HANDMAIDEN’S TALE), Emma Donoghue (ROOM), L.M. Montgomery (ANNE OF GREEN GABLES)
Because this stop of the road trip is a YA giveaway, I’m highlighting my two favorite Canadian authors:
Moira Young (BLOOD RED ROAD)
Kelley Armstrong (Women of the Otherworld series)

    1. I would say Kelley Armstrong is my favourite Cdn author.

There aren’t as many Cdn set books as there should be, but I’ll always love the Anne books and their PEI setting – so vivid!

    2. I haven’t read Kelley Armstrong’s adult books yet, but I really like her YA books. Loved Blood Red Road too! Thanks for the chance to win!

    3. thanks for a fantastic giveaway! As a kid I loved, loved, loved Anne of Green Gables and I think I read pretty much everything that Lucy Montgomery wrote.

    4. Kelley Armstrong fer sure! But I’m also a major L.M. Montgomery fan from the way back. I’ve even read some of her journals–that lady was ridiculously talented in terms of voice/narrative style.

    5. I have a soft spot for Y.S. Lee and her historical YA mystery series 🙂 Yay for Canadian authors and thanks for the giveaway!

    6. Samantha R.

I’d have to second many of the above comments and go with Kelley Armstrong and L.M. Montgomery.

    7. Haven’t read any books in that context sadly and am not going to copy paste other people’s answers. I hope to be able to read some soon!

    8. Lesley Livingston and Kelley Armstrong are two of my favorite Canadian authors 🙂 Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
